Day 1:  Without studying the words, use them for a spelling test to see which words the children already know. Then study daily on the ones missed.

Day 2: Learn the meaning of the words and their parts of speech.  (This can be tricky. In the story, “cocked” means to lean the head over to one side and is a verb. Used as a verb elsewhere, it would mean “to prepare a gun to fire”.) Discuss these sorts of words.

Day 3:  Play Popcorn Spelling.

Day 4:  Write each word in a sentence.

Day 5:  Spelling test.
